Thoughts Play Hide and Seek

A Contemporary Art Exhibition for Kids and Adults

The exhibition Gedanken spielen Verstecken shows 22 internationally renowned artists on two floors of Haus Kunst Mittes. The special thing about it: All questions are allowed here. Close to the works and in a playful way, Ephra provides a lively approach to contemporary art. The focus is on artistic positions that move and touch us with current issues. Children, young people and adults are cordially invited to experience art with all their senses.

Participating artists:

Paula Anke, Ilit Azoulay, Ethan Hayes-Chute, Olafur Eliasson, Jeppe Hein, Claudia Hill, Christian Jankowski, Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Nadia Kaabi-Linke, Ali Kaaf, Wie-yi T. Lauw, Dafna Maimon, Wolfgang Karl May, Ayumi Paul, Ana Prvački, Karin Sander, Yorgos Sapountzis, Tomás Saraceno, Nadine Schemmann, Vlado Velkov, Ulrich Vogl, Nicole Wendel

The exhibition Gedanken spielen Verstecken provides an answer to the question of a child-friendly approach to contemporary art. Ephra is opening up its unique approach to a wider audience for the first time. Over the past five years, Ephra has accompanied 240 children from 13 Berlin schools to the studios of 64 artists. Asking questions, listening, putting their own experiences into words - the children who take part in the Ephra unterwegs programme practise all of this. In this way, they directly recognise how much art has to do with their everyday lives. The eye-to-eye encounters open up new worlds of thought and perspectives for both the children and the artists. 22 of these artistic positions are presented in the exhibition.

Jeppe Hein, for example, invites visitors to paint their current emotional mood as a self-portrait on the wall. Ayumi Paul invites visitors to sing together to measure the interaction of sound and space. Tomás Saraceno uses a spider to symbolise the complex interconnectedness of nature, the environment and people. The directions on Christian Jankowski's carpets trace the paths of his travels, while the prints of a dog in Haus Kunst Mitte are tracked down by Karin Sander and lead the way into the exhibition.
