Workshops for the Exhibition by Nasan Tur

How can I be political?
What difference can art make ?
How can I express myself through art?
How can I make a stand?

Huge facial images can be seen in the exhibition space of the artist Nasan Tur in the Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin-Steglitz.

The solo exhibition of the contemporary artist Nasan Tur (*1974) at the Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin-Steglitz focused on the vulnerability of the instances of journalism and politics that are so important in democracy, on power structures, on self-responsible action and the necessity of becoming politically active. The internationally renowned artist Nasan Tur, who lives in Berlin, draws attention to important questions about forgetting, remembering, intimacy and representation with his new video productions.

In conversation and discussion rounds, activating body and performance exercises with the participants, we worked out what art can do for our democracy, how one can express oneself politically through art and what impact one's own actions can have on a society. The young people created their own video productions and sought answers to the questions: What do I have to say? What do I want? What is important to me? The video work concentrates on the gestures of the hands and anonymises the speakers through clothing, for example.

Stills from the students' video works as part of the solo exhibition of the artist Nasan Tur: four images are shown in which only the torso of the speakers can be seen.
